    What is MCS?

What is a MCS solar installer and what does it mean?

MCS accreditation is aimed to give you the confidence that your chosen solar panel installer is the right choice.

MCS approved – What does it mean?

MCS basically is a certification scheme for the micro-generation of energy, that is renewable energy produced by individuals and small businesses. MCS was the first independent scheme specifically set up in relation to micro-generation to enforce a rigid standard.

MCS approved solar panels installers are companies who have been approved by MCS and use approved tier 1 products.

Why use an MCS solar panel installer?

MCS accreditation is aimed to give you the confidence that your chosen solar panel installer is the right choice. The standards MCS enforce ensure that both the materials and workmanship will be of the highest quality. In order to enforce the standards MCS impose all MCS members are tested annually to ensure compliance.

Will MCS make a difference to my grant application?

In order to qualify without any issues for government grants your installation must be MCS approved. The grants provide 20 years of income for the renewable energy produced by solar panels.

How can I find an MCS solar installer?

Simply go to the MCS website and search for a supplier in your area. The website address is “http://www.microgenerationcertification.org”. Alternatively, if you search on Google for solar panel installers, check out on the suppliers website that they are MCS approved. You can always double-check their claim on the MCS website if you need to.

Are there any other schemes/accreditations to be aware of?

Yes there is a European scheme called the Solar Keymark. This scheme offers one certificate to cover all EU countries. This scheme is good for some companies as it allows them to work across all European countries. At http://www.environmentalenergies.co.uk we have a full list of accreditations as well as MCS.
