The Tower – Ground Mounted Solar PV installation

    Size: 26.79 kW
    Est. Production: 23,897 kWh pa
    CO2 reduction: 243,000 kg/pa

In March 2019 Environmental Energies installed a 94 panel, ground mounted solar PV system which feeds holiday accommodation at the site of the former RAF Tower in Friskney.

RAF Wainfleet boasts a long and distinguished military history. Starting as a weapons range back in the 19th Century, the site reopened as a military firing range during World War Two when it was used by the celebrated Dambusters for practise. More recently F-15’s, A10’s and F1-11s were a common sight here until the site closed in 2010. Now redeveloped into unique and modern holiday accommodation, the Tower has retained many features that hint at its historical significance. Today guests can expect an uninterrupted view over the marshes through the massive windows previously used by the controllers.

The challenge The customer was keen to reduce the carbon footprint and running costs of his unique holiday lets and be in the forefront of green energy in the Holiday Let market.
The solution was to install a ground mounted solar array which included 94 Hanwha QCells 285Wp solar panels, a Solis 20kW inverter with a Sunfixings pile driven ground mount system. The system is predicted to generate 23,897kWh of electricity pa. To enable the customer to remotely monitor the system’s performance a PAD Technology, eMIG generation meter was installed.

Testimonial “Environmental Energies were quick and efficient throughout the whole process, helping to guide us through the installation of the system as well as working with us to gain all the necessary permissions to put the system into production.” W. Roughton
