A solar PV system (also known as solar photovoltaics) is a renewable energy generating system designed to supply usable solar power during daylight hours. Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels harness the unlimited free energy provided by the sun to generate electricity, reducing the need to rely on the fossil fuel derived energy supplied by the national grid.

Solar PV systems are eligible for the government incentive known as the Feed-in Tariff (FIT).

An air source heat pump (ASHP) is a heating system which transfers heat from the outside of a building to the inside, or vice versa. A high efficiency air source heat pump can provide up to four times as much heat as an electric heater would if it were using the same amount of energy.

Air source heat pumps are eligible for the Domestic and Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) subsidies from the government.

A ground source heat pump is an electrical heat pump that extracts heat from the ground to provide hot water and cooling for commercial and residential buildings. Ground source heat pumps are an environmentally friendly way of heating and cooling a building on demand all year round.

A conventional power plant makes electricity by a fairly inefficient process. The concept of CHP (sometimes known as thermal reclamation) is to capture heat generated from either a natural gas fed boiler, a biomass boiler, or heat that would normally be wasted during production processes and convert it into a combination of both heat and electricity that can be used on site.
