A 400-acre farm with an additional 15 acres of land set aside for camping and caravanning, Brook Meadow is a busy camping site which can accommodate up to 300 people at a time. Following a substantial upgrade of bathroom facilities, Brook Meadow saw an opportunity for a renewable community energy solution to provide heat and hot water to these facilities.
Environmental Energies installed a 60kW biomass boiler that could provide heat to the new bathroom facilities, as well as three log cabins. The heat produced by the new system is distributed through highly insulated underground pipes, ensuring maximum efficiency.
The new biomass boiler is able to provide all the heating required for the refurbished campsite. Brook Meadow have now reduced their carbon emissions by 3 tonnes, something that was of great importance to the rural campsite. They also estimate their total savings and income to be £9000 per annum following the biomass boiler installation. The reduction of carbon emissions and costs that have resulted from an investment in sustainable energy has allowed the site to provide a greater supply of heat for its visitors than before.
